Gamers: don't hate the environment; save money
Just a quick hack to save time, money, and frustration. Nearly every controller for new consoles requires AA batteries: Wii remotes, the Wii balance board, Xbox controllers, Rock Band/Guitar Hero Instruments - basically everything but the PS3 controllers.
Batteries are nasty things chemically, and using disposables and constantly throwing them out is environmentally awful. And expensive. And...

Keep it sharp →
Looking into knife sharpeners lately, I recalled a product I’d seen on informercial-hour TV. Turns out it’s not only the #1 selling unit on Amazon, but also the winner of Cook’s Illustrated’s manual sharpener comparison. For $10, it’s a steal.

Congress saw financial crisis coming in 1999 →
They totally called it:
“I think we will look back in 10 years’ time and say we should not have done this but we did because we forgot the lessons of the past, and that that which is true in the 1930’s is true in 2010”
Oops.

OnLive Streaming Game service launched →
OnLive allows for streaming of server-side gaming to your PC, Mac or TV. This removes platform barriers, hardware requirements, and only requires an (uncapped) broadband connection.
Could be great, could be a disaster. We all need to know more first. Here’s a hands on impression to get us started.

Correction: Installer App does not do what I said →
Oops. Engadget calls out Gizmodo’s report (which, for the record, didn’t jive with my understanding of how the util worked, but I wanted so badly to believe) in a good old fashioned blog smackdown.

Boxee vs. Cable: Mark Cuban vs. Avner Ronen →
Boxee CEO takes on Mark Cuban, after his rant on his own blog. Personally, I think Cuban misses the point(s) - a la Carte internet does exist (tiered bandwidth pricing), and people are getting wary of overpaying for more pre-programmed content than they could ever possibly want. Teh internets provide ambiguous and highly varied/dynamic content, hence it’s hard to overpay or pay at all based...

There are times when Jon Stewart leaves me speechless. He fills a gaping void where media fails to demand accountability from the amoral wanks that screw the everyman.

iPod Touch 2G jailbreak done!
From the iPhone devteam:
“The iPod Touch 2G is now another member of the “pwned for life” family. It has a fatal flaw in its bootrom that means you will always be able to pwn these devices no matter what firmware updates come along. This is the full, untethered jailbreak, something that iPod Touch 2G users have not had before today.
Those of you who hang out on IRC or were able to read...

Obama snubs Gordon Brown →
Uh oh. I’m having a hard time teasing this all apart. This article (from the British media) makes Obama out to be overworked, overstressed, and not paying any attention to foreign policy. That said, I think the Brits probably got used to overly rosy love-fests when Bush was in office, and the reality is that POTUS does have a real shitter of a domestic crisis on his hands.
But that said,...

The best deal-researching tool:
Gazaro.
Lets you search by item and store, but then (this is the good part) shows you a nice graph of where the prices have been for the last few weeks, to give you an idea of how much you’re paying relative to how much it has cost recently before/after sales and shopping peak seasons.
This is particularly useful if you shop at Amazon, since their prices are all over the map. When I...
